Have you ever wondered as a child or even as an adult why we
would kneel when we pray and why we should lift our hands in prayer? I know I
did and now I have the answer and the understanding as to why this is
important.
I was reading “The Battle Belongs to the Lord” by Joyce
Myers and she answers this question. She states that when we are on our knees
with our hands uplifted is our battle position. It shows that we are ready and humble to hear
what God has to say in order for us to get up and move forward according to his
plan.
In this position we can be reverent and have surrendered
ourselves to the Lord and he can recognize and see that are we are willing to
listen and act according to his word.
After reading this now I can explain to my daughter why she
needs to kneel in prayer at night before going to bed. Now she will have a
better understanding as she grows older the importance of this position and
will be more willing to prostrate herself this way as a sign of humbleness and
readiness before the Lord.
Joyce reminds us that are weapons are not nature weapons and
most likely not something that the world will understand. Our weapons are our
Bibles and Eph 6:10-17 (NIV) talks about our Spiritual Armor that prepares us
for battle. “…Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's
schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the
rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and
against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on
the full arm our of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to
stand your ground, and after you
have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled round your waist, with the breastplate of
righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with
the readiness that comes from the
gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of
faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of
the evil one. Take the
helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the
word of God.”
We must remember that we have to learn to fight God’s way
and not the way of the world.
I was so happy to have learned that this was my battle
position and why I should kneel and raise my hands to sky. I am showing that I
am ready to fight God’s way and that I am humbled to hear what he has to say to
me. I now look at kneeling not as an inconvenience but rather as a way to be
still to hear what the Lord has to say.
I was truly blessed by this chapter in the book and look
forward to sharing more and blessing those that may read this post and help
them to get a better understanding of the ways of the Bible and what the Lord
wants from us as Christians!
